Skin in menopause needs and cosmetic solutions

Menopause skin represents a specific technical challenge for the cosmetic formulator.
The drop in oestrogen alters the skin barrier, reduces collagen and elastin synthesis, and accelerates the appearance of spots, wrinkles and dryness. Cobiosa has developed a selection of natural origin actives to address these needs effectively.

Skin and Menopause: Changes and Challenges

Menopause causes a progressive reduction in oestrogen levels that directly impacts on skin physiology.
This hormonal decrease compromises the structure of the extracellular matrix, reduces water retention capacity and weakens the barrier function, making the skin more reactive and vulnerable to ageing.

Hormonal Impact on the Skin Barrier

With the drop in oestrogen, the skin loses endogenous ceramides and structural lipids essential for maintaining the cohesion of the stratum corneum.
This results in greater transepidermal water loss, a feeling of tightness, itching and an inflammatory response more easily triggered by external agents or conventional cosmetics.

Why is menopause cosmetics growing unstoppably in 2026?

Well-aging and femtech cosmetics are the fastest growing global segments. Consumers over 45 demand specific products that address hormonal changes with documented efficacy. The trend of dermatological personalisation by life stage positions menopause as the axis of skincare innovation for major brands over the next three years.

Actives for Menopause Skin

Cobioage, Phyto Ceramidyl Omega N and Makistem are three natural origin actives with 100% ISO 16128 certification that address the main skin signs associated with menopause.
Each acts on a different mechanism, which allows them to be strategically combined in complementary formulations or integrated into the same multifunctional product.

Cobioage: redensifying and anti-exposome

Cobioage (INCI: Propanediol, Aqua, Caesalpinia spinosa Fruit Extract) acts by stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis to improve skin density and firmness.
In addition to reinforcing the extracellular matrix, it protects against the exposome with antioxidant, anti-glycosylation and anti-lipid peroxidation activity. The recommended usage dose in formulation is 1%.

Phyto Ceramidyl Omega N and Makistem

Phyto Ceramidyl Omega N (INCI: Plukenetia volubilis Seed Oil, Olea europaea Fruit Oil, Aqua, Glycerin, Ceramide NP, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Citric Acid, Tocopherol) provides botanical ceramides that restore the barrier, increase hydration and reduce lost elasticity. Recommended at 5%.
Makistem (INCI: Aqua, Glycerin, Aristotelia chilensis Leaf Extract) activates maqui berry stem cells to reduce spots and unify skin tone. Recommended at 1%.

Formulations for Menopause Skin

The three reference formulations developed with these actives cover different moments and needs of the mature skin care ritual.
Each is designed to maximise the efficacy of the key actives in a suitable vehicle, and can serve as a starting point for the development of own products adapted to each brand or market.

Redensage and Ultra Omega Care

Redensage (PROT.296/24) is a light gel-cream formulated with 1% Cobioage in an emollient base of caprylic triglycerides and sweet almond oil.
Its fluid texture makes it suitable as a daily redensifying treatment. Ultra Omega Care (PROT.297/24) is an ultra-hydrating cream enriched with 5% Phyto Ceramidyl Omega N, shea butter and squalane.

Cutting Edge Radiance Serum

The Cutting Edge Radiance Serum (PROT.298/24) incorporates 1% Makistem in a light aqueous base with Sclerotium Gum as a texturising agent.
It is a low-viscosity formulation oriented towards anti-spot treatment and tone unification, with high dermal penetration. Contact Cobiosa's technical team to request the reference formulations.
