Enlarged pores in mature skin: active ingredients and formulations
Enlarged pores in mature skin result from the deterioration of the perifollicular dermal support, excess sebum production, and accumulated environmental pollution.
Anti-aging cosmetic formulators seek active ingredients that combine astringent action, pore refinement, and hydration without causing skin dryness. Fomes officinalis, with clinically proven in vivo efficacy, is Cobiosa’s botanical answer to this concern.

What are pores and why do they enlarge with age?
Pores are natural skin conduits that regulate the release of sebum and sweat through the follicular canal. Over time, the loss of collagen and elastin reduces perifolicular dermal support: the follicular ostium widens and pores become more visible, wider and less capable of recovering their original shape.
Why do pores enlarge in mature skin?
With age, several factors converge to progressively enlarge pores. Collagen production decreases, the supporting dermal tissue loses density, and pores are no longer properly supported. At the same time, excess accumulated sebum, smoking, stress, and environmental pollution contribute to the expansion of the follicular canal and the deformation of its opening.
Well-aging and the growing demand for high-performance anti-aging treatments are bringing pore control to the forefront of cosmetic innovation in Europe. Formulators are identifying an increasing need for multifunctional active ingredients that combine visible pore refinement, sebum regulation, and moisturizing action in a single solution, without astringency compromising skin tolerance.

Pore Reductyl NT: natural treatment for enlarged pores
Pore Reductyl NT is a concentrated and purified active ingredient derived from the pulp of the mushroom Fomes officinalis. Thanks to its high agaric acid content, it acts as a natural astringent capable of immediately and lastingly reducing the appearance of enlarged pores. In addition, it provides an antiperspirant effect without blocking the eccrine sweat glands, helping to improve skin appearance and control excess shine.
Efficacy in just 15 minutes
In vivo studies demonstrated that Pore Reductyl NT provides immediate and visible efficacy against enlarged pores. Following a single application at 3%, pore visibility was reduced by 18.3% after just 15 minutes versus placebo. In addition, the active ingredient decreased pore count by 4.5% after 15 minutes and by 5.1% after 1 hour, while also reducing pore area by 2.3%, confirming its skin texture-refining effect.
Long-term treatment for mature skin
In mature skin, a progressive and significant reduction in pore appearance was demonstrated. After 28 days of application at 5%, the active ingredient reduced pore visibility by 10.7% versus placebo, while also decreasing pore count by 6.7% and pore area by 6.9%. These results confirm the long-term efficacy of Pore Reductyl NT in improving skin texture and visibly minimizing pores in mature skin.

Recommended formulations for mature skin
Pore Reductyl NT is incorporated into the aqueous phase at 2-5% after cooling (T<40°C), compatible with a wide variety of cosmetic bases. The following reference formulations demonstrate its versatility in antiaging products for mature skin: a nourishing day cream and a refining gel with a natural antiperspirant effect.
Mature Skin Pore Refiner Cream
Day cream for mature skin formulated at 5% Pore Reductyl NT, with shea butter, sweet almond oil and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. Emollient texture combining the astringent effect of the active with nourishment and comfort. pH 5.0-5.5.
Refining gel with a natural astringent effect
Aqueous gel at 5% Pore Reductyl NT as a natural alternative to conventional deodorants. Demonstrated antiperspirant efficacy for up to 8 hours in 75% of volunteers. The water solubility of the active simplifies formulation without additional co-solvents. Also suitable as a facial refining serum for mature combination skin.
